Thomas Sanladerer has been answering the question you were about to post in a forum for more than a decade — usually more clearly, with fewer superstitions, and without telling you to replace half the printer first.
If 3D printing has tribal knowledge, Thomas has spent years converting it into actual documentation.
Why this makes you a better maker
When he rebranded the channel as Made with Layers, Thomas wrote that the entire reason for starting a YouTube presence was a need for information: the same questions kept appearing, so the efficient move was a compact, understandable video instead of typing the same explanation forever. Source
That origin story still explains why the back catalog is useful. He is unusually good at taking a topic that has accumulated years of forum mythology — extrusion, slicer settings, supports, materials, maintenance, hardware, threaded connections — and reducing it to the parts that actually matter.

In 2025 he published a collection of slicer hacks showing how negative volumes, infill behavior, bridging, and other slicer features can be deliberately abused to create geometry or test sections that would otherwise require extra CAD work. Source

Thomas is the person you send to a friend immediately after they announce they bought a printer.
Not because he will teach a bag of magic calibration rituals, but because he tends to do the opposite: explain enough of the machine that they stop treating it like a haunted box.
He has a particular talent for producing the sentence that makes you stop the video and go:
“Oh. So that’s what that setting actually does.”
Then three months later you repeat the explanation to someone else like you discovered it yourself.
